Relaxed screening of two dialogue-free animated short films about animals, followed by a children's craft activity to make an animal home.
Small World Cinema brings Animal Homes and Habitats to Arnold Library on Wednesday 28 October, from 1:30pm to 2:45pm. It's part of Nottinghamshire libraries' autumn season of Relaxed Screenings, which are dementia- and autism-friendly and designed to be welcoming to all.
The session pairs two dialogue-free animated short films. The first is Shoom's Odyssey, a French featurette about overcoming the odds, kindness and finding your family. The second is Capybaras, which follows a family of capybaras finding refuge in a chicken coop; it was made by director Alfredo Sodeguit from his award-winning picture book. Because neither film relies on dialogue, they work well for a mixed-age crowd.
After the films, the session turns into a craft activity. Children make their own animal home or habitat out of matchboxes, twigs, acorns, fabric and feathers, so the whole thing goes from watching to doing in one afternoon.
