Nottingham jazz group Sharp Little Bones launch their new double album 'Step Up! Get Down!' with two shows at Peggy's Skylight.
Sharp Little Bones are back at Peggy's Skylight on Saturday 17 October, this time to launch their new double album, Step Up! Get Down!. It's a Nottingham jazz group formed in 2022 around double bass player, writer and performer Simon Paterson, who has written all the band's compositions. The new record comes from a single nine-hour session at Metronome in July 2025, where they recorded eleven new compositions. It's due for release this month, so this is one of the first chances to hear the material live.
Paterson's writing draws on his own life: 'Layli's Lullaby' is named after his daughter, and 'Roo's Blues' after his eldest son, Rubin, who already jams at Peggy's 'Nottingham Jazz Jam'. The group's debut double album, Volumes I & II, earned critical acclaim and support from BBC Radio 3 and Jazz FM, and led to a sold-out UK tour and a headline show at the London Jazz Festival. This new set will be built around the fresh material from Step Up! Get Down!.
