Solo concert by singer, harpist and composer Rachel Newton, with support from Catch the Sparrow, at Peggy's Skylight.
Rachel Newton plays Peggy's Skylight on Sunday 8 November, performing solo. She's a singer, harpist and composer who works from poems, ballads and stories hundreds of years old, reworking them into a contemporary style. The night opens with support from Catch the Sparrow, the project of Dutch musician Suze Terwisscha van Scheltinga.
Newton's career has taken her across theatre, dance, storytelling and visual art, and she's toured internationally — most recently with The Lost Words: Spell Songs. Alongside Lauren MacColl she co-produces Heal & Harrow, a multi-disciplinary project built around the Scottish Witch Trials. She was named Musician of the Year at both the Scots Trad Music Awards and the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and her albums To The Awe and Here's My Heart Come Take It were both shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award. She also shared a PRS Composer of the Year award with MacColl and won a Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland for her work with the Rowantree Theatre Company.

Her 2025 album No Sweeter Sorrow was described as finding echoes of Fiona Apple, Anais Mitchell and Alanis Morissette, so this solo set should give you a good sense of where she's at now. The night starts at 7pm at Peggy's Skylight, 3 George Street, Nottingham, NG1 3BH, and tickets are £15.
