YA authors Shannon J. Spann and Nisha J. Tuli talk about their books, followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.
Shannon J. Spann and Nisha J. Tuli are in conversation at Waterstones in Nottingham on Monday 2nd November, starting at 18:30. It's a double bill of young adult writers talking through their latest books, followed by a Q&A with the audience and a signing. If you're into YA, it's a rare chance to see two authors on the same stage rather than just one.
Spann's book is A Stage Set for Villains, a dark fantasy described as richly atmospheric. The story follows Riven Hesper, who infiltrates a sinister travelling theatre to break a deadly curse. It's pitched to fans of The Night Circus, so expect a gothic, theatrical feel. Tuli's Storm Breaker takes a different route: it's set at Amery Academy, a glittering private school run by elite societies in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, surrounded by wastelands and violent storms. It's described as Divergent meets The Hunger Games, so it's more of a dystopian school story with a high-stakes edge.
Between them, the two books cover a lot of ground—one a dark fantasy about a cursed theatre, the other a dystopian tale of a private school in a ruined city. They'll both talk about their work, and then the floor opens up for questions, so you can ask them about their writing or the worlds they've built. There's a signing afterwards too, if you want a copy for them to sign.
