Concert by singer-songwriter Ruth Lyon with support from Anna Smyrk and Eliza Hull at The Grove in Sneinton Market.
Ruth Lyon headlines a three-artist bill at The Grove on Thursday 29 October, with Eliza Hull and Anna Smyrk sharing the stage. It's a singer-songwriter night in the Sneinton Market end of town, and the three names on the bill bring quite different backgrounds to the same room.
Lyon is a singer-songwriter, composer, disability advocate and fashion designer who describes her music as baroque-pop — that particular blend of orchestral, ornate arrangements and pop songwriting. She used to perform as Ruth Patterson, so if you recognise the name from earlier years, it's the same person.
Anna Smyrk is an alt-folk artist from Central Victoria, and her live show draws on the years she spent living in Cambodia and the Solomon Islands. She describes her songs as anthemic, pairing vulnerable lyrics with explosive arrangements and undeniable hooks. Between Lyon's baroque-pop and Smyrk's alt-folk, there's a fair bit of ground to cover in one evening.
