Theatrical walking tour led by guide Ezekial Bone following the Robin Hood trail through Nottingham, from the Lace Market to Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.
The Robin Hood Town Tour is back on the streets of Nottingham, running every first and third Saturday of the month at 2pm. It's a family history and education tour of Robin Hood's world, and this one starts at The Cross Keys pub on Byard Lane. The whole thing takes about two hours, so you're looking at a good afternoon out rather than a quick stroll.
It's led by Ezekial Bone, who's as much a part of the draw as the stories themselves. Critics have called him a 'mobile theatrical performance' and a 'convincing personality', and that's a fair way to put it — he doesn't just recite facts, he performs them. The tour is billed as a fun, theatrical exploration of the Robin Hood legend told against the backdrop of the city, and Bone carries the weight of that on his shoulders.
You'll follow the outlaw's trail through the city, taking in the Lace Market, the Old County Gaol, St Mary's Church, Broadway, and Hockley. You'll also head beneath the streets to see the Saxon caves, before the walk ends with an invite to share ales at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, long billed as the oldest pub in England. It's a fair bit of ground to cover, so come with comfortable shoes. The tour has picked up several awards and drawn praise from the BBC, CBS News and ZDF TV, and it's a good way to see parts of the city you might otherwise walk right past.
