An all-female, irreverent retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, focusing on the servants, with a pop music score.
Pride & Prejudice (sort of) opens at Nottingham Playhouse on Monday 2 November, running through to Saturday 7 November. It's written and directed by Isobel McArthur, who takes Jane Austen's most famous love story and turns it on its head.
Rather than focusing on the romantic leads, the show follows five young women — the overlooked and undervalued servants — who take on supporting roles in the main story and fight over men, money and microphones. It's an all-female, irreverent but affectionate retelling, and the music is a big part of it: the score leans on pop classics like 'Young Hearts Run Free', 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow' and 'You're So Vain'. Critics have called it 'riotously funny', 'gloriously entertaining' and 'raucously irreverent'.
