Free guided tour of the Nottingham Hackspace, the makerspace behind the Nottinghack community, required for membership.
Nottingham Hackspace is running a guided tour of its workshop on Wednesday 28 October, from 19:00, with doors open from 18:45. It's a free entry session, and if you've ever wondered what goes on behind the doors at 6 Alfred Street S, this is the way in.
The space is the physical home of Nottinghack, a Nottingham non-profit run by its members and open to hackers, makers and crafty creatives. They frame 'hardware hacking' as a creative, educational hobby, and they're pointedly clear about what that means: it's a world away from illegal network hacking, identity theft or computer virus propagation, and they don't condone anything illegal. If you're more at home with a soldering iron than a keyboard, you're in the right place.
In practice, it's a community workshop for anyone who likes to build, make and learn about electronics, crafts, robotics, DIY, laser cutting, CNC, 3D printing, photography, computing and prototyping. It's as much about the tools as the people, a place to share equipment, techniques and time with others who are tinkering away on their own projects. If you've got a half-finished gadget in a drawer or a project you've never quite had the kit for, this is the kind of place that makes it easier to get it finished.

There's a practical side to consider if you're thinking of sticking around: attending a tour is a requirement before you can join as a member. Once you're in, you can also join their online Discord community to keep the conversation going between visits. The space is accessible via the Roden Street entrance, with a lift up to the first floor. The tour starts at 19:00 on Wednesday 28 October, with doors open from 18:45, and entry is free.
