A social night of Scottish ceilidh dancing with live music, led by caller Schuggie, welcoming all skill levels and beginners.
The Nottingham Ceilidh Club is back at The Boat & Horses in Beeston on Friday 16 October, with doors opening at 19:30. It's a night of Scottish ceilidh dancing run by Schuggie, who calls the dances, and the club's 'Ceilidh Ninjas', who steer people back on track if they get lost mid-twirl. Every dance is walked through first and called in a gender-free way, so you don't need a partner, any prior experience, or a membership to join in. Beginners are the norm here.
The night is deliberately untechnical and pitched as inclusive and high-energy. The idea is that making mistakes is half the fun, and strangers dancing together is the other half. The music is a mix of live and recorded, and guest callers are always welcome. The Boat & Horses in Beeston is the club's spiritual home, though the circuit also takes in venues like The Belgrave Rooms, Greyfriars Social Club, and the Loyal Caledonian Corks in Birmingham. The new landlord at the Boat & Horses serves free water at the bar, and the night sometimes films the dancing to help improve future ceilidhs.
