Stand-up show by Melissa Todd, former sex worker and Metro columnist, about her career as a stripper, porn star and dominatrix, at The Canalhouse.
Melissa Todd brings her stand-up to The Canalhouse on Sunday 1 November, as part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival. It's a one-woman show that takes you through her career as a stripper, porn star and dominatrix — three roles she's held over thirty years working in the adult industry.
Todd writes a weekly column for Metro, and she describes the anecdotes she pulls from there as ranging from the hilarious to the bizarre. The show is built around those stories, and it's fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe. Reviewers have called it an 'excellent show' and 'whore-positive', an honest eye-opener to the world of kink and the adult scene, with The Scotsman describing her as an 'irresistible force'. It's presented by NCF Comedy as one of the festival's bookings.
The venue is one of Nottingham's most distinctive pubs. The Canalhouse is a Grade II listed former canal museum with a stretch of canal running right inside the building, resident narrow boats and a footbridge. It's picked up a fair few accolades over the years: Ratebeer's Best Beer Bar in Nottingham in 2016 and 2016-2017, Visit Nottingham's Tourism Pub of the Year in 2018, and silver Pub of the Year at the 2025 Nottinghamshire Tourism Awards. It's a good spot to grab a drink before the show starts.
