Interactive children's murder mystery show written and performed by Daniel McVey, suitable for ages 7 and above.
Leo and the Library Detectives comes to Strelley Road Library on Wednesday 2 June, from 14:00 to 15:00. It's an interactive mystery written and performed by Daniel McVey, and it's part of the Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery programme running across Nottingham City Libraries. The whole thing celebrates the life, work and legacy of the world's bestselling novelist and 'Queen of Crime', and the show sits alongside a touring exhibition of the same name. That exhibition is at Strelley Road Library from 5 May to 29 June, so if you're in the building for the performance, you can easily make time to wander through the displays before or after.
The exhibition itself is inspired by the British Library's major show that opened in London on 30 October 2026, and it's the same one that's touring the country. The show follows a sold-out run of McVey's murder mystery A Foot is Not an Appropriate Prize for the Tombola at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026, so it's a new piece of work coming off the back of that. The story starts when Leo finds a body in the crime fiction section of a library and teams up with a group of Library Detectives to interrogate book club members and scour the archives, uncovering surprising similarities to a cold case from the 1930s. The audience helps solve the crime along the way, so it's more of a shared puzzle than a play you just sit and watch.
