Warm-up gig of JT Soar Fest 3 Fringe with The Wameki, Zilch Patrol and Big Break at the standing-room-only JT Soar.
The Wameki, Zilch Patrol and Big Break play JT Soar on Thursday 29 October, as part of the JT Soar Fest 3 Fringe presented by the JT Soar Collective. It's a warm-up gig for the main festival, and the line-up brings together three bands from three different cities.
The Wameki come from Tokyo's underground scene and play what they describe as oddly grooving, noisy, disjointed minimalist wonk rock. They work as a trio without a guitarist: the bassist plays a two-string bass, the drummer a three-piece kit of bass drum, snare and hi-hat, and the vocalist repeatedly jumps on stage. They played JT last year with Teo Wise, and since then they've toured the US extensively and released a new EP, Kobuzaseki.
Newcastle's Zilch Patrol bring post-hardcore and post-punk from Byker, all fuzzy guitars and blown-out drum machines. Sheffield's Big Break add garage punk from the Steel City, out on Wrong Speed Records. Between the three, you've got Tokyo's wonk rock, Newcastle's post-punk, and Sheffield's garage punk on one bill.
