British folk singer-songwriter Johnny Campbell plays The Grove in Sneinton Market with special guests Paul Carbuncle, Sarah Farrell and Rebecca Leivers.
Johnny Campbell plays The Grove on Friday 20 November, with doors open from 19:00. He's not alone on the bill; Paul Carbuncle, Sarah Farrell and Rebecca Leivers are all on as special guests, so it's a full night of folk rather than just a solo set.
Campbell has spent the last decade working his way through the UK folk scene, writing his own material and digging into Northern English song and story. He's been on a solo path since late 2013, and since then he's put out three records and played over 500 shows across Britain and Europe. His 2020 album From Hull & Halifax & Hell took him to the Faroe Islands, where he recorded a live album on the island of Nolsoy. Since March 2020, he's followed that with Hard Times of Old England, Winter Hill Trespass (2021), and A Right to Roam (2022) — a collaboration with Commoners Choir and Skelmanthorpe Brass Band that Tradfolk named one of the best folk songs of 2022.

2024 brought True North, an album of Northern English traditional songs recorded on their respective county summits. Richard Thompson called it one of his top five albums of the year in UNCUT. That same year, Campbell became the first person to tour the Pennine Way for the route's 60th anniversary, walking 268 miles and playing 17 shows in 19 days. The Grove is at Unit 48 Freckingham St, Sneinton Market, Nottingham NG1 1DQ. Tickets are £10 in advance and £12.50 on the door.
