Comedy show in which the panel translates foreign idioms literally while the audience knows their true meanings, presented by NCF Comedy at the Nottingham Comedy Festival 2026.
JESTERS bring Idiomocy to the Cosy Club on Sunday 1 November, as part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival 2026. It's a comedy show built around a simple, slightly absurd premise: the panel are given literal translations of foreign idioms, while the audience knows what they actually mean. The gap between the two is where the laughs come from.
If you've never heard the literal version of a foreign idiom, it's easy to see why it works. A phrase that makes perfect sense in its own language often sounds completely nonsensical when translated word-for-word into English. The panel have to make sense of those phrases without knowing the real meaning, and the audience gets to watch them struggle in real time. It's a game of translation gone wrong, and the whole thing is presented by NCF Comedy as one of the festival's shows.

The show runs in the Victorian Lounge at the Cosy Club, 18 Victoria Street, NG1 2EX. Doors open at 2:40pm and the show starts at 3:00pm, so it's an afternoon one rather than a late night. Tickets are £6.00 for general admission, which comes to £6.60 with the booking fee. One thing to keep in mind: it's strictly for ages 18 and over, so it's an adults-only afternoon.
