Live show by the afro-futurist eight-piece Ibibio Sound Machine, with support from Ziyad Al-Samman, at Rescue Rooms.
Ibibio Sound Machine play Rescue Rooms on Saturday 24 October, with Ziyad Al-Samman on support. It's a London band coming up to Nottingham, and they're an eight-piece, so there's a fair bit of them on stage.
They've been around since 2013, formed in London around the vocals of British-Nigerian frontwoman Eno Williams and co-founder Max Grunhard. Since then they've put out five albums and built a following that stretches well beyond the UK. They describe themselves as an afro-futurist collective, and that's a decent shorthand for what they do: they pull together West African rhythms, electronic textures, disco, post-punk and global club energy. It's a broad mix, and they're one of the more forward-thinking bands coming out of the UK scene.

Rescue Rooms is on Goldsmith Street in the city centre, and it's more than just a stage — it's a live music venue, club, bar and patio, with two secluded outdoor areas. The show is for over-14s only, so it's an all-ages night rather than a late-night club thing. Doors open at 18:30, and they're expecting to finish around 22:00, so it's a proper evening without running too late into the night. Tickets are £25 face value, or £28.13 with the booking fee.
