Stand-up show by former 90s girlband star Hayley Ellis, presented by NCF Comedy as part of the Notts Comedy Festival.
Hayley Ellis brings her stand-up show Stop showing off in front of your mates to The Canalhouse on Monday 31 January 2027, from 7pm. It's presented by NCF Comedy as part of the Notts Comedy Festival, so it's one of the festival's scheduled nights rather than a standalone gig.
If you've never come across her, Ellis has a bit of a double life. She was in a 90s girlband, and these days she's a stand-up comedian and a mum. The hour is billed as a no-singing, no-dancing set of joyous retrospection, and she describes herself as the 'no-singing, no-dancing funny girl'βwhich is a fair way of saying the popstar days are the subject of the jokes, not the act itself. The set pulls from a few different places: body image, her time at Smash Hits magazine, and an indoor skydiving debacle that went wrong. It's an hour of her looking back at those years and the life she's built since.

The Canalhouse is an interesting spot for it, too. It opened in 2000 on the lower floors of the former Canal museum, and it's famous for having a canal that runs right into the building, resident narrow boats and all. It's a proper Nottingham venue, and the show is recommended for ages 16 and over. Tickets are Β£17, and the night starts at 7pm.
