Live show by the alternative indie trio EEVAH from Halifax at The Grove in Sneinton Market.
EEVAH play The Grove on Wednesday 27 January, their first Nottingham date since they formed. The trio comes from Halifax, and the line-up is Nicole Smith, Richard McNamara and Fay Clayton.
They describe their sound as alt-indie, and the references they point to — The National, Wolf Alice and The XX — give you a fair idea of where they sit. There's a moody, atmospheric side to it, the kind of introspective lyricism that works well when you're listening on your own, but they pull it out into stadium-sized anthems when it's time to open up. They mix rock and indie with catchy pop hooks, so it's not all low-slung and moody; there are melodies in there that stick.
At the core of it, they keep a DIY ethos, and their songs are about human error — the kind of small, messy things that most of us recognise. It's that combination of the quiet, interior stuff and the bigger, louder moments that defines them, and it's what they'll be bringing to the stage.
