Den of Fools: Funny / Punny Improv Panel Show

Den of Fools is at the Cosy Club in the Victorian Lounge on Sunday 8 November, starting at 13:10. It's an improv comedy panel show hosted by Denzil de Cristo, who brings together a group of guest panelists he describes as '21st-century jesters' to entertain the royal court. The whole thing is built around improv games and puns, so it's a bit more about quick thinking and wordplay than a set of written jokes.

There's a fair bit of structure to it, though. The Fools work through improv games, pull jokes out of random topics, tell tall tales and go head-to-head in a pun off. A few of the regular rounds include the Jester Minute, I Didn't Expect That, Guess the Guest, News at Den and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Advice. Because it's improv, the specific jokes change from one show to the next, and the guest panelists bring their own energy to the mix.

It's not a new act, either. Den of Fools has played the Edinburgh and Buxton Fringes and the Leicester Comedy Festival, and you can find clips of it on YouTube if you want to see how it works before you commit. BBC Radio Derby called it 'very funny, and a brilliant set up', and Tony Cowards described it as 'a lot of fun'.

It's on Sunday 8 November at 13:10 at the Cosy Club, 18 Victoria Street, NG1 2EX. Tickets are £5.50 in advance or pay what you want on the door.
