Hands-on family STEAM workshop for ages 8 and over to experiment with forces that seem to challenge gravity.
Defying Gravity is a family STEAM workshop running at Lakeside Arts on Friday 23 October, from 17:00 to 18:30. It's a hands-on session for ages eight and up, so it works as a late-afternoon activity to do with kids rather than a standalone class for them to attend on their own.
The whole thing centres on forces that seem to challenge gravity. You'll spend the ninety minutes twisting, floating and lifting, working with experiments that make the impossible look real. There are floating balls, dancing objects and air-powered tricks to get stuck into, and the point is to see how science can pull off things that look like they shouldn't be possible. It's a STEAM workshop, so it pulls from science, technology, engineering, arts and maths, and you'll be doing the experiments yourself rather than just watching someone else demonstrate them.

It's held in the Performing Arts Studio at Lakeside Arts, which is over at University Park, NG7 2RD. The session runs for an hour and a half, from 17:00 to 18:30, and it's open to anyone aged eight and over. Tickets are £10, and that includes a free adult ticket, so you can join in with the kids without paying extra for your own spot. If you're looking for something to do on a Friday afternoon that gets the family involved in something practical, this is a good shout.
