Deep Forest, the French electronic and jazz project of Eric Mouquet, plays Rough Trade Nottingham with his new album 'SOUL'.
Deep Forest play Rough Trade Nottingham on Wednesday 21 October, their only Nottingham date this autumn. If the name rings a bell, it's probably because they were one of the first acts to make world music a household term in the early nineties, when they started in the north of France with the idea of mixing ethnic music with electronic and jazz sounds. Their self-titled debut gave us 'Sweet Lullaby', and the project went on to sell 10 million albums, earn a Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album, and eventually take the award home with Boheme.
Eric Mouquet is the composer and producer behind the project, and he's worked with a long list of names over the years: Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, Josh Groban, and Rahul Sharma. Deep Forest have also remixed artists like Youssou N'Dour. When Michel Sanchez left in 2005, Mouquet kept the name going, releasing Deep Africa and Deep India.
The live set is known for being versatile, moving from high-tempo electronic and jazz to ambient and relaxing, so it's not always the same mood from start to finish. In 2026 the project opens a new chapter with SOUL, an album that Mouquet describes as exploring the bridge between ancestral emotions and modern technologies.
