Live show by rock band Ugly at Rough Trade Nottingham, presented by Communion ONE.
Ugly play Rough Trade Nottingham on Saturday 31 October, presented by Communion ONE. It's a small room, around 150 capacity, so it'll be a close one.
The band started in 2005 against the blue-collar smokestacks of Detroit, Michigan, when guitarist Kevin McCreery, formerly of Outspoken, reconnected with Geo Teubl, formerly of Bridge, after both their bands had broken up. They rounded out the line-up with Donnie Highland on drums and Frank Green on bass. Frontman Geo Teubl said they wanted to 'put the art back in party with raw rock'. They finished recording their debut album, produced by Rick Parashar and tentatively titled Ugly, for release in 2007, and they cite Detroit rockers such as Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent and Kid Rock as influences. Now rooted in London, the band fuses inspiration from sacred choral harmonies, sprawling post-rock and melodic warmth.
