Live gig by Dutch art rock band De Staat with support from Hiqpy at Rescue Rooms.
De Staat play Rescue Rooms on Saturday 14 November, with Hiqpy opening. The Dutch rock band comes from Nijmegen, and the project started back in 2006 when vocalist Torre Florim first envisioned it on his own, before it grew into a full band and put out its debut, Wait For Evolution, in 2009. They've released six studio albums since then, and their sound pulls from a wide spread of influences: Talking Heads, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Michael Jackson, Run-DMC and Soulwax. The songs run from the rallying cry of 'Witch Doctor' to the sharper commentary of 'KITTY KITTY'.
They've played and headlined festivals like SXSW, Glastonbury, Lowlands, Sziget, Boomtown, Rock for People, Pukkelpop, Rock Werchter and Deichbrand, and have toured with The Rolling Stones, Muse and Biffy Clyro. After two years of silence, they've returned with a seventh, self-titled album, an art installation and a live show, marking nearly 25 years in the art rock landscape.
