Tabletop role-playing games convention with Dungeons & Dragons and other games, guest talks, and guided tours of the historic caves beneath the inn.
CaveCon One is a new tabletop RPG event taking over Ye Olde Salutation Inn on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November. It's put on by DM Horizons, and the venue is one of the city's oldest: a Grade 2 listed building in the centre that dates back to around 1240. It sits atop ancient sandstone caves thought to be part of a 9th-century Saxon farm, and tradition says the place plays host to 89 resident apparitions. Games are played both in the inn and in the caves below.
Across the two days, you get two three-hour tabletop sessions, a guest talk, a tour or a special game, and a guided look at the caves. The games are run by veteran Dungeon Masters and cover a fair spread of systems: Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, Rivers of London and Vaesen, plus a Fighting Fantasy adventure run by the Dice Goblin. There's also Blood on the Clocktower and an official Ghost Tour. Special guests include Mike Mason, Keris McDonald and Lynne Hardy from Chaosium.

It's a small-scale thing: only 24 day tickets are available for each day, so it'll be a tight group rather than a crowd. One practical thing to keep in mind is that the caves and the upstairs areas are accessible by steps only. If you're planning to go, the times are Saturday 10:30–19:30 and Sunday 12:00–20:30, and tickets are £40.
