Candlelight concert by the 41 Degrees Quartet of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and 'La Follia' in Nottingham Contemporary.
The 41 Degrees Quartet are taking Vivaldi's The Four Seasons to Nottingham Contemporary on Saturday 23 January 2027. It's a Candlelight concert, which means the music is played by the soft glow of hundreds of flameless candles rather than a stage spotlight. The quartet will run through the full cycle — Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter — and they're adding Vivaldi's Sonata n.12 in d-minor 'La Follia' RV 63 to the set. The whole thing runs for about an hour of live music.
Nottingham Contemporary is a contemporary art centre in the Lace Market, and it's chosen for its atmosphere rather than its acoustic pedigree. It's a landmark gallery inspired by the city's textile heritage, with a scalloped lace-patterned concrete facade and a setting built into a sandstone cliff. By day it houses major art exhibitions; by night it turns into a cavernous room for around 300 people. The audience sits in one of four indoor zones, with seats assigned on arrival. The experience is a tribute and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the composer's estate or official representatives.
