Candlelight concert by the string quartet Ensemble M of Hans Zimmer's film scores, with the room lit only by flameless candles.
Ensemble M bring a tribute to Hans Zimmer to Nottingham Contemporary on Saturday 24 January, part of the Candlelight concert series presented by Fever. It's a string quartet playing Zimmer's scores, and the set pulls from some of his most recognisable work: Time from Inception, This Land from The Lion King, Cornfield Chase from Interstellar, and suites from Gladiator, Dune and Pirates of the Caribbean.
The setup is what gives the night its name. The room is lit by thousands of flameless candles, and the audience sits in assigned zones, with the front row reserved as Premium. It's a multi-sensory take on a concert, and the venue is part of that — Nottingham Contemporary is a landmark gallery in the Lace Market, known for its scalloped green-and-gold facade and expansive, light-filled halls. This is one of the city's galleries being used for a performance, which isn't what it usually does.

On the practical side, the show runs an hour, with doors opening 45 minutes before the start. Late entry isn't permitted, so it's worth getting there early. It's recommended for ages 8 and up. The organisers make it clear that the concert is a tribute and isn't associated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Hans Zimmer, his heirs or official representatives. Tickets start from £26.78, and the performance runs from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
