Award-winning open mic night for new acts and new material at Canalhouse, held every other Wednesday and part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival.
Canalhouse Comedy Night is back at Canalhouse on Wednesday 25 November. It's the venue's award-winning New Act / New Material Night, and the name tells you exactly what it is: a night where up-and-coming acts start their careers and established names come to work through new material. The line-up can range from first-timers to household names, so you're as likely to see someone's very first gig as you are a pro testing out a new set.
It's a night with a proper track record behind it. It picked up Best Small Club at the Midlands Comedy Awards in 2021 and 2018, Best Open Mic Night in 2016, and Best East Midlands Open Mic Night in 2015. Over the years, the stage has hosted Scott Bennett, Seann Walsh, Zoe Lyons, Laura Lexx, Pierre Novellie, Carl Hutchinson, Alfie Moore, Maisie Adam, Daniel Foxx, Chloe Petts, Josh Jones, Helen Bauer, Grace Petrie, Phil Ellis and Stevie Martin. The night is run by NCF Comedy and forms part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival, which has called Canalhouse home since it started in 2009. This 2026 edition marks its 18th year, running for ten days and staging 130 shows across the city.
