Free British Sign Language tour of 'Sarah Cunningham: Midnight Sun', the artist's first institutional solo show, guided by Jason Redwood.
Nottingham Contemporary is hosting a BSL tour of Sarah Cunningham: Midnight Sun on Saturday 28 November, led by Jason Redwood. It's part of the larger exhibition, which runs from 9 October 2026 to 10 January 2027 across Galleries 2 and 3.
Midnight Sun is the first institutional solo show and the largest presentation of work to date by the late British artist Sarah Cunningham (1993-2024), and it brings her work back to the city where she was born and raised. Her paintings dwell in imaginary wildernesses and fluid forestscapes, drawing on science fiction literature, art history, ecology and personal references. Much of that came from a nocturnal practice that distanced her limbs and thoughts from systematic, painterly movements, with works that start in darkness and build towards the dawn chorus. The show is curated by Katie Simpson and Niall Ó Faircheallaigh, with headliner support from Lisson.
The tour itself is delivered by Jason Redwood, who holds an English Literature degree and has a passion for installation art and art history. He leads the walk in British Sign Language, without an interpreter or voiceover, so it's a direct experience of the work through BSL. If you're already planning to see the exhibition, this is a way to engage with it from a different angle.

The tour runs from 1pm to 2pm on 28 November, and it's free, though donations are welcome. The full exhibition stays open until 10 January, so you can come back and spend more time with the paintings after the tour.
