Author Eve Makis presents her novel 'Where the Earth Holds Secrets' at Stapleford Library, a session for adults.
Eve Makis is coming to Stapleford Library and Learning Centre on Saturday 31 October, starting at 11:00am. She'll be talking about her new novel, Where the Earth Holds Secrets, which is the book the whole session is built around.
The story comes from a true account of missing persons in Cyprus, and Makis has woven her own family history into it, so there's a personal thread running through the whole thing. If you're into historical fiction that starts with a real-life mystery and works its way out, this is exactly that kind of book.
It's not her first go at this, either. Makis is an award-winning writer with four novels to her name, including The Spice Box Letters, and she's also written The Minute Memoir, a non-fiction guide to writing. She started out in journalism and radio before moving into novels and taking up a post as a lecturer in Creative Writing at Nottingham Trent University, so she's spent as much time teaching the craft as she has practising it. These days she splits her time between the UK and Cyprus, which makes sense given where the new book is set.
