Literary evening with author Will Maclean to celebrate his novel 'Solace House', with chat, Q&A and book signing.
Will Maclean is coming to Waterstones in Nottingham on Tuesday 27 October, starting at 18:30. It's a literary evening to mark his novel Solace House, and the night is built around it: Maclean chatting about the book, followed by a Q&A with the audience and a signing. If you're coming for the book, you can get it as part of your ticket and collect it on the night.
Solace House is set in the summer of 1993. The story follows Alex Lane, who's offered the chance to help clear out Solace House, a large Victorian residence left to the university by a reclusive hoarder called Flayne. It's the kind of premise that does a lot of the heavy lifting for you — a big, old house filled with another person's life, and the slow process of sorting through it all.
Maclean comes to it from a screenwriting background, and he's worked with a wide range of names: Alexander Armstrong, Miranda Hart, Al Murray and Tracey Ullman. This is his second novel; his first, The Apparition Phase (2020), was shortlisted for the McKitterick Prize. He's also the co-creator and co-presenter of the podcast Broken Veil, which picked up a 2025 Independent Podcast Award nomination. He lives in London with his wife and young daughter.
