Poetry reading by HilthePoet, an Angolan-Portuguese poet, at Ronin Bar on the Hockley Hustle day.
HilthePoet is reading at Ronin Bar on Sunday 25 October, as part of the Hockley Hustle. It's a poetry reading by an Angolan-Portuguese poet living in Nottingham, and the work comes from a specific place: identity, displacement, and the dialogue between cultures, drawn from the lived experience of the diaspora. If those are things you've been thinking about lately, this is a good one to have on your radar.
Ronin Bar is a Japanese-Caribbean basement bar and lounge that opened in September 2025, with a hand-built Japanese interior, Caribbean cocktails, private booths and low light. It's tucked away at 7-9 Hockley, NG1 1FH. The reading is part of the Hockley Hustle, a Sunday music and culture day that takes over the Hockley neighbourhood, linking dozens of venues, poets, choirs and bands under a single wristband. The day is presented by Poets Off The Endz x The GOBS Collective, and it's grown steadily over the years: the Queer Hustle launched last year with four queer-led venues and has expanded since, and the Step N Groove flashmob routine, set to 'Nights Like This', has travelled the world.

Because it's part of the Hustle, you're not just getting one act. A single wristband gives you access to all 48 venues across the day, so you can drift between them as you like. The venue itself is open from 1pm to 2:30am, and the reading falls within the 13:30-23:35 window. The wristband is £20, and that covers your entry to Ronin Bar and every other venue on the circuit, so you can make a whole day of it rather than just one stop. If you're already planning to be out in Hockley that Sunday, this is a straightforward addition.
