An evening of ghost stories, poetry and songs read by M. R. James, Mary Shelley and Edgar Allan Poe, raising money for the Nottingham Historic Building Trust.
Read by the Dead comes to The People's Hall on Thursday 29 October, an evening of ghost stories, poetry and songs from horror authors. The night brings some of the greatest names in horror back to life for a few hours: M. R. James reads one of his most famous ghost stories, Mary Shelley retells a haunting tale of transformation, and Edgar Allan Poe performs some of his most haunting poems. Between them, they cover the three main modes of the night—story, retelling and verse—so there's a bit of everything to sink your teeth into.
It's a fundraiser, too. Ticket proceeds go to the Nottingham Historic Building Trust, which is currently restoring The People's Hall itself. It's an old and cold room, and the bar serves hot drinks, so you might want to grab something warm before you settle in. The show is part of Nottingham's half term and Spooky Season programmes, and it sits right in the middle of the city's autumn horror calendar.
