Screening of work by shortlisted artists of the Film London Jarman Award, with a conversation and audience Q&A.
Broadway Cinema is hosting a screening from the 2026 Film: London - Jarman Award touring programme on Sunday 8 November, from 6pm to 9pm. The night brings together work by this year's shortlisted artists: Sadia Pineda Hameed, Ilona Sagar, Rhea Storr and Alia Syed. After the films, Rhea Storr and Alia Syed sit down for a conversation with Angelica Sule, Director of Film and Video Umbrella, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
The Jarman Award is an annual prize that's been recognising and supporting UK-based artists working with the moving image since 2008. It was inspired by the filmmaker Derek Jarman and is presented by Film London in partnership with Whitechapel Gallery, with support from Arts Council England. The award is run through FLAMIN, the Film London Artists' Moving Image Network, which has been at the heart of the sector's development since 2003; nominations come from individuals and organisations with expertise in UK artists' moving image.
This year's jury described the shortlist as possessing a confident, singular way of seeing the world, deeply grounded in lived experience and research. It's a prize with a track record for spotting talent early: previous shortlists have included artists like Heather Phillipson, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Monster Chetwynd and Charlotte Prodger, all of whom went on to be shortlisted for or win the Turner Prize. The touring programme runs from 22 September 2026 to 21 January 2027 across nine UK arts venues, and this is the Nottingham stop.
