The Varna International Ballet Company brings its touring production of The Nutcracker, the classic Christmas fantasy ballet, to the Norwich Theatre Royal.
Varna International Ballet bring The Nutcracker to Norwich Theatre Royal on Monday 8 February 2027. It's a touring production that's visiting the UK throughout the year, and this is the Norwich stop.
If you've never seen it, The Nutcracker is one of the most famous fantasy ballets there is, and it's built for all the family. It opens on Christmas Eve: snowflakes drift outside while the warm glow of the open fire throws flickering shadows across the boughs of the Christmas tree and the presents beneath it. When midnight strikes, the story shifts into a fairy-tale world where toy dolls spring to life, the Mouse-king and his mouse-army battle the Nutcracker Prince, and the journey travels through the Land of Snow to an enchanted place where the magic really begins.
It's a production that works as well for a first-timer as it does for someone who knows the story by heart, and the theatre recommends it for ages five and over, so it's one you can take the younger ones to without worrying they'll be out of their depth. The performance runs for about an hour and 47 minutes, with an interval in the middle to stretch your legs.
