The Varna International Ballet Company brings its production of Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky's romantic ballet, to the Norwich Theatre Royal.
Varna International Ballet bring Swan Lake to Norwich Theatre Royal on Tuesday 9 February 2027, with a matinee at 2:30pm and an evening show at 7:30pm. It's a double-bill day, so you can pick whichever time suits you best. The performance runs about two hours and fifteen minutes, including an interval.
Swan Lake is one of the most famous ballets there is, set to Tchaikovsky's score. The story follows a tragic romance that moves from the palace ballroom to a moonlit lake where swans glide in formation. The lead role is a double: the same dancer plays both Odette, the spellbound swan queen, and Odile, the temptress in black tulle. It's widely considered one of the most technically demanding roles in ballet, so it's the part most people come to see.
The company behind it is the Varna International Ballet, which has been performing in Bulgaria and abroad since 1947. They're known for their award-winning soloists and a large corps de ballet, and for this production, they're bringing their own orchestra, the Varna International Ballet Orchestra, led by Music Director and Chief Conductor Filippo Dessi. It's a full company on tour, rather than a smaller cast.
