Concert with more than 200 performers from the University of East Anglia and the local community, conducted by Bjorn Bantock with works by Mendelssohn, Weber, Berlioz, Brahms and Dvořák.
The UEA Choir and UEA Symphony Orchestra are playing The Halls on Thursday 19 November, with the concert starting at 7.30pm. It's a big one — more than 200 performers from the university and the local community on stage at once, all conducted by UEA Director of Music Bjorn Bantock.
The programme pulls from Mendelssohn, Weber, Berlioz, Brahms and Dvořák, and the range is wide. The organisers describe it as running from dramatic seascapes and virtuosic brilliance to heartfelt reflection and jubilant celebration, so it's less a single mood and more a bit of everything across the evening. With that many names on the bill, you'll hear a good spread of the Romantic era's heavy hitters rather than just one or two familiar pieces.
There are guest soloists joining in too: soprano Alice Platten, baritone Dhilan Gnanadurai and clarinetist Grace Patrick. Patrick comes to the stage as a UEA Music Centre Award holder, so she's one of the university's own taking a turn in the spotlight alongside the guests. Between the choir, the orchestra and the soloists, there's a lot of ground to cover in one night.
