Live rock 'n' roll and rockabilly show by the three-piece Norfolk band Those Deadbeat Cats at The Duke of Wellington.
Those Deadbeat Cats are playing The Duke of Wellington on Friday 6 November, from 20:30 to 23:00. They're a three-piece Norfolk rock 'n' roll and rockabilly band fronted by three well-known local musicians, with a line-up of guitar, drums and double bass.
They describe themselves as loosely based on rockabilly, but they show little respect for musical genres. Their sets run from the fifties to the modern day, mixing rockabilly fundamentals with pop, rock, ska, blues, punk, jazz, country and surf. It's a broad reach, and the title of their 2023 album, This Ain't Rockabilly, points to exactly that — a band that starts with a particular sound and then pulls in whatever else they fancy. If you're coming for the rockabilly, you'll get it, but you'll likely get a fair bit more alongside it.
They've been playing around the county for a while now, and this isn't their first time on a proper Norwich stage; they played The Lanes Festival back in 2019. The 2023 album This Ain't Rockabilly is their latest release, so it should figure into the set. With the guitar, drums and double bass line-up, the rock 'n' roll side of things is the foundation, but the setlist is where they bring in the pop, ska, punk and the rest.
