Live sixties covers night with The Men from Uncle Barry, fronted by Uncle Barry, recreating hits from the sixties, soul and rock'n'roll.
The Men from Uncle Barry play the Bob Carter Centre on Saturday 17 October, a sixties covers night that pulls from a few different corners of the era. It's a live band fronted by Uncle Barry himself — Barry Neale — and the set runs through Elvis, The Beatles, Johnny Kidd, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Leo Sayer, Roy Orbison and Frankie Valli, with the falsetto included. That spans the sixties, soul and rock'n'roll, so it's a broad reach across the decade rather than sticking to one particular sound.
There's a bit of local history to it, too. Barry Neale was fronting the Cyclones back in 1963, when they were one of the top attractions on the Norfolk circuit. He's returning now with a full band to recreate that material, so it's a return to the scene he was part of over sixty years ago.
He's not doing it alone. The band is made up of local musicians John Tyrrell, Steve Bell, Laurie Menear and Marcia Hastings, who back him on the night. Between them they're covering the Beatles' melodies, the rock'n'roll of Elvis and Johnny Kidd, the soul side of things, and the high notes of Frankie Valli and Roy Orbison.
