Hillbilly folk act playing bluegrass, country and rock in a rustic style on traditional americana instrumentation.
The Hillbilly Goats Gruff are playing Ribs of Beef on Sunday 31 January, from 4pm to 7pm. They're a hillbilly folk act, and the set runs across a fair few styles: traditional bluegrass and country, and then over to modern rock and pop. They describe their approach as a fun, energetic rustic style, and they play it on traditional americana instrumentation — double bass, acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle and percussion, with a whole lot of singing on top.
It's a wide reach for one afternoon, and the instruments they use are the classic bluegrass staples. The double bass and acoustic guitar hold the bottom and the rhythm, the banjo and fiddle take the leads, and the percussion keeps it moving. When you add the singing, you get the full picture of what they're about. It's a sound that sits comfortably in the americana tradition, but they're not sticking to one era or one corner of it.
They've been out at festivals over the last few years, too. They played Wildfest in 2024, the Wymondham Beer Festival in 2025, and Rockstock in Overstrand later that same year. They also played The Reindeer here in Norwich in 2025, so they're no strangers to the local scene.
