Hillbilly folk act playing bluegrass, country and rock in a rustic style on traditional Americana instrumentation.
The Hillbilly Goats Gruff are playing Ribs of Beef on Sunday 8 November, from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. They're a hillbilly folk act with a repertoire that stretches from traditional bluegrass and country through to modern rock and pop, all played in a rustic style on traditional Americana instrumentation.
That instrumentation is a good way to get a sense of the sound: double bass, acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle and percussion, with a whole lot of singing on top. It's the kind of setup where the banjo and fiddle do the heavy lifting, and the double bass keeps the whole thing grounded, so even when they're working through rock and pop songs, they're still coming through that Americana filter. The setlist pulls from both ends of the spectrum, so you'll hear the bluegrass and country they're built on alongside the more contemporary stuff.
They describe their approach as fun, energetic and rustic, and they've spent a fair bit of time playing across Norfolk. You'll have come across them if you've been to Wildfest or the Wymondham Beer Festival, and they've played The Reindeer here in Norwich as well as Rockstock in Overstrand. This is another one of those dates in the city, this time over at Ribs of Beef.
