Night marking the 50th anniversary of punk rock with a live gig by The Steve Ignorant Band playing Crass, plus an exhibition of original punk memorabilia from the Eastern Counties.
The Steve Ignorant Band play Norwich Arts Centre on Saturday 24 October, marking the 50th anniversary of the start of punk rock. The night is put on by Punk In The East, one of the UK's largest online catalogues of original punk history, and the main set is a live performance of Crass. Supporting them are Red Flag 77, with local DJs playing original punk rarities filling the gaps. It's billed as a reunion of old faces from across the region, many meeting for the first time in well over 40 years.
There's more to it than just the gig. Punk In The East is staging an exhibition of original photography, clothing and ephemera from the Eastern Counties, and a separate exhibition of early punk memorabilia runs at the centre. Among the items on display are the actual poster from Norwich's first punk gig in 1976 and the original Sex Pistols advert from the University of East Anglia that same year. Crass themselves played Norwich twice back then, at the UEA Barn and the Gala Ballroom, so the whole night ties back to the city's own punk history.
