Sh!t-faced Shakespeare's raucous, boozy and foul-mouthed take on Romeo and Juliet, played for two sold-out nights at the Playhouse.
Sh!t-faced Shakespeare are bringing Romeo and Juliet to the Norwich Theatre Playhouse on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 November, both nights starting at 7:30pm. It's a two-night run at the Playhouse, which is over at 42-58 St Georges Street in the city centre.
If the name gives you a hint, this isn't your school-days version of the play. They describe it as a no-holds-barred interpretation with a tipsily tragic take on the characters: a rat-arsed Romeo, a juiced-up Juliet, a trollied Tybalt and a mashed-up Mercutio. There's plenty of booze on stage, foul language, nudity and disembowelled limbs, and only occasional Shakespeare. It's a far cry from the polished, reverent productions you might be used to, and it doesn't hold back on the messier side of the story.
They've built a fair bit of a reputation around it, too. The show is billed as a smash-hit, internationally acclaimed, award-winning, multi-sell-out phenomenon, so it's not just a one-off local thing. It's toured and played to packed houses elsewhere, and these two nights in Norwich are no different — both the Thursday and Friday shows are already sold out. If you've been following it, that'll come as no surprise.

Tickets are £27.50, and both performances start at 7:30pm. With the two nights already gone, it's one of those where you'll want to keep an eye on the venue for any returns or similar runs coming back to the city.
