Concert by Shabaka Hutchings, with Rory Green and Amy Nomvula, at EPIC Studios in Norwich.
Shabaka plays EPIC Studios on Wednesday 11 November, as part of the Round Midnight series presented by Norwich Arts Centre. It's a seated show, so you'll be watching from a chair rather than on your feet.
If you've come across the name before, it's likely from The Comet Is Coming or Sons of Kemet. Shabaka Hutchings has spent the last few years as a bandleader, multi-instrumentalist and producer, and he's widely regarded as one of the UK's most influential musicians and a defining figure in contemporary British culture. His work draws on jazz, electronic, spiritual and diasporic traditions, and it's helped shift how people think about jazz and experimental music on a global scale.
The set will centre on his 2026 album, Of The Earth, which marks a bit of a turning point for him. He wrote, performed, produced and mixed the whole thing himself, and it brings together two sides of his recent work: the dance-driven energy of Sons of Kemet and The Comet Is Coming, and the quieter, breath-led language of his solo explorations. On stage, he plays alto flute alongside saxophone, so you'll hear both instruments across the night.
