Comedy play by Jonathan Harvey about the life of Paul O'Grady and his alter ego Lily Savage, starring Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard.
Savage runs at Norwich Theatre Royal from Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 April 2027. It's a new comedy inspired by the life of the late Paul O'Grady and his alter ego, the fearless, foul-mouthed Lily Savage, and it comes with O'Grady's blessing. RuPaul's Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard takes the title role, with Nikolai Foster directing and ROYO producing.
The play follows a working-class boy from Birkenhead who, armed with little more than his wits and a wig, rose from the streets of Merseyside to the heart of London's club scene and primetime TV fame. It's set against Thatcher's polarising politics and the AIDS crisis, so it's as much about the era as it is about the man. The script is by multi-award-winning playwright Jonathan Harvey, known for Gimme Gimme Gimme, Coronation Street, and Beautiful Thing. The production is described as a bold, deeply moving play, and it's touring the UK before heading to London's West End.
