Fourth anniversary of Repair Café Norwich, where volunteer repairers fix broken household items like clothes, bikes, small appliances, toys and sewing machines for free.
Repair Café Norwich is celebrating its fourth anniversary on Saturday 17 October, and they're marking it by doing exactly what they've been doing since they started: fixing things for free. It's a straightforward setup that's become a bit of a local staple over the last few years, and this one is taking place at St Mary Magdalen's Church on Silver Road.
If you've never come across it, the idea is simple. You bring in something from around the house that's broken—something you'd usually just bin because it's too small to bother a professional with—and a volunteer repairer helps you get it working again. It's not a drop-off service; you stay with your item, watch the process, and often get a bit of a lesson in how it actually works while it's being sorted. The whole point is to keep things out of the skip and get them back in use.
The range of what they can handle is pretty broad. A typical spread includes clothes that need a stitch, bikes with a wonky gear or a flat tyre, small electrical appliances that have given up the ghost, toys that have seen better days, and sewing machines that have stopped humming. If it's a household item and it's broken, it's worth bringing along and seeing if one of the volunteers can tackle it.

It's a free event, so there's no cost for the repair itself. It runs from 9:30am to 2pm on Saturday 17 October at St Mary Magdalen's Church, Silver Road, Norwich. Just bring whatever you've got that needs fixing and see if they can sort it.
