A performance that is part history lecture, part folk club sing-a-long and part storytelling session about land rights and protest in England.
Three Acres And A Cow comes to The Halls on Wednesday 21 October, a show that works its way through the history of land rights and protest in England. It's told through folk song, story and poem, and it doesn't stop at the distant past. The narrative connects the Norman Conquest and the Peasants' Revolt with things that still feel very present: the housing crisis, reparations, climate breakdown and food sovereignty. Along the way, it threads through the Enclosures, the English Civil War and the Industrial Revolution, keeping the focus on the radical people's history of the country rather than the version you'll find in a textbook.
It's a bit of a hybrid, too. The show is described as part TED talk, part history lecture, part folk club sing-a-long and part storytelling session, so it shifts between talking, singing and listening. It's drawn praise from George Monbiot, which gives you a fair idea of the ground it covers. The whole thing runs for about two hours and 45 minutes with one interval, so it's a proper evening's work rather than a quick stop-in.
