Free 2-hour walking tour led by Paul Dickson celebrating the writers who lived in or wrote about Norwich, from Julian of Norwich to Ian McEwan.
Norwich: The City of Stories Walking Tour kicks off from The Forum on Sunday 25 October, from 11 am to 1 pm. It's a two-hour walk through the city, led by Paul Dickson, and it's part of this year's Norwich Book Festival.
Norwich is a UNESCO City of Literature, and the tour is built around that: the writers who lived here and the ones who wrote about it. The route pulls together a wide spread of names, from Julian of Norwich and Daniel Defoe to Parson Woodforde, Amelia Opie, Harriet Martineau, Anna Sewell, JB Priestley and Ian McEwan. It's not just a list of authors, either; you'll pass Shakespeare at the Erpingham Gate, hear the story of Will Kemp's 'Nine Days Wonder' at the Maddermarket, and listen to excerpts from the Paston Letters. Along the way, there's a look at the city's history of libraries and newspapers too.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Norwich and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

The walk starts outside The Forum on Millennium Plain (Bethel Street, NR2 1BH) and winds its way across town to finish in Tombland. It's aimed at adults, with an 18+ age guidance, and it's free to join. If you're around on the morning of the 25th, it's a good way to see the city through a literary lens.
