Creative workshop by Norwich Making Space to make one-page zines from recycled and reclaimed materials, part of the Norwich Book Festival.
Norwich Making Space are running a Junk Zines workshop on Sunday 25 October, from 3.30pm to 5pm. It's part of the Norwich Book Festival, which runs from 24 to 30 October and spreads bookish activities across the city — from children's programming like 'The Imaginarium' to walking tours like 'Norwich: The City of Stories'.
The session is led by Luisa from Norwich Making Space, and the focus is on one-page zines: mini handmade booklets for storytelling and experimentation. The whole point of a zine is that it's self-published and low-stakes, so this is a good one to drop into if you've never made anything like it before.
Norwich Making Space is the organisation behind Luisa and Georgia, who bring primary and SEN teaching experience alongside art and design backgrounds to their sessions. They work across three core disciplines — printmaking, sculpture and textiles — drawing on makers past and present. They run classes for children, young people and adults, including 18+ Craft Socials on weeknights at The Artichoke in NR3 and holiday clubs and Saturday Club sessions at Pete's Park / Community East in central Norwich. Their ethos is about stepping away from the scroll and rediscovering the joy of making, with a particular focus on recycled and reclaimed materials — which fits the 'junk' part of the zine title.
