ThickSkin's production of Tim Foley's ghost story and psychological thriller about an out-of-work actor who plays a ghost at a countryside manor.
ThickSkin bring It Walks Around the House at Night to Norwich Theatre Playhouse on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October, both nights starting at 7:30 pm. It's a ghost story by Tim Foley, directed by Neil Bettles, and it arrives here after a sell-out UK tour. Foley is a former Bruntwood Prize winner who's written Electric Rosary for the Royal Exchange Theatre and worked on Doctor Who audio dramas, so he knows his way around a script that plays with tension.
The play is described as part ghost story, part psychological thriller, and a haunted-house tale for a new era. It follows Joe, an out-of-work actor who takes a job playing a ghost at an old countryside manor, only to uncover something far more frightening than the role he's been cast in. It's a classic setup—the actor playing a ghost who finds a real one—but the psychological thriller side of it suggests it'll lean more into the head-space than just the jump-scares.
It's picked up some serious momentum before reaching Norwich. It was nominated for four 2026 Fringe Theatre Awards: best new play, best production, best lead performance, and best director. The Guardian called it 'thrills and spills, which stay with you, and follow you home', which is a decent summary of the kind of thing you'll be taking away from the night. The production runs an hour and a half with no interval, so you're in for one continuous stretch rather than a break in the middle. It's recommended for ages 14 and over.

Behind the scenes, Pete Malkin handles sound design, while Joshua Pharo takes care of lighting and video—two things that do a lot of the heavy lifting in a ghost story. Tickets start from £26.50, though both performances are already listed as sold out, so you'll likely be looking at returns or waiting lists. Concessions for under-26s are £15, school groups £13, and there are discounts for Friends (5%) and Ambassadors, Supporters, Best Friends, and Gold Friends (10%).
