Patrick Grant, host of The Great British Sewing Bee, talks about craft, creativity and our relationship with clothing in this talk show.
Patrick Grant brings his talk Hand Made Man to Norwich Theatre Royal on Sunday 7 March 2027. Most of us know him as the host of The Great British Sewing Bee, and that's where he starts: taking the audience behind the scenes of the Sewing Bee workroom, through Savile Row, and into what it means to craft and be creative in today's world.
He draws on stories from his time on television, sharing the triumphs and the last-minute disasters that come with making things that last. From there, he turns to how our relationship with clothing has gone wrong: around 100 billion garments are produced every year, a third of them never worn, and the equivalent of a bin lorry full of clothes is burned or buried every second. His argument is personal, economic and quietly radical, about what is lost when price becomes the only measure of value.
It's a talk that sits at the intersection of craft and the bigger picture, and there's a chance to ask him questions during the evening. The show is part of a tour running from 17 November 2026 to 13 April 2027, so this is one of its stops on the way through.
