Free gig by Generation 29, a Norwich four-piece rock-covers band playing hits from Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, AC/DC and Guns N' Roses.
Generation 29 play The Brickmakers on Friday 6 November, from 21:00 to 23:50. They're a Norwich four-piece, and the set is a mix of their own original material and covers that pull from opposite ends of the rock and pop spectrum.
That range is a good way to get a sense of what they do. On one side you've got the big, guitar-driven sound of AC/DC and Guns N' Roses; on the other, the pop and soul of Tina Turner and Dolly Parton. It's not often you'll hear those names in the same set, and the original songs sit alongside them. They describe themselves as an energetic rock-covers band, and that's the core of the night: a high-energy set that doesn't stick to one particular era or style.
It's a local band playing one of the city's most established venues. The Brickmakers is a proper multi-stage spot, and this one is on the main stage, which mostly hosts local covers bands and usually keeps entry free. There's also the B2 venue, a grassroots space for up-and-coming acts from across the country—mostly metal and rock, but pop, punk and folk too—and an outside stage they use during the summer. This show is on the main stage, so it's right in the thick of the venue's regular run of local nights.
